It's never too late...Until it is.

My coach had some shocking news for me this week...that has still has me a bit off.
He had just found out (after over 25 years), the USA Weightlifting program is no longer going to be at the Olympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs.

Olympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs. Where Olympic Athletes lift...and I did too.

I was in the middle of my sets when he told me.

I tried to process the information, while trying to stay focused on the lift.

I failed 3 attempts in a row.

Coach had us take my weights off the bar, and made me start over.

Our platform was awesomely placed right in front of the sign.

In between sets for the rest of my session, we talked through what it meant to both of us.

I searched for emotion on his face...

He simply said, “It’s sad.” several times, and expressed his regret about not returning since he was a resident athlete there, for our US Olympic team...16 years ago.

My mind started reeling about what it meant for me personally...

Cramming the night, while the more experienced lifters went out to explore Colorado Springs.

Just last year, I traveled there to begin the journey of learning Olympic Lifting.

What better place to learn, than to go straight to the Olympic Training Center?

What a better people to learn from, than former Olympic Athletes themselves?

What better organization to be certified through for coaching lifts, than TEAM USA?

I talked a few things through with Coach…
  • I can't go back there for my level 2 cert next year as I’d planned.

  • The only reason I wanted my level 2 cert, was because I could go back to the Olympic Training Center, to train and stay on the campus.

  • He had told me to do the level 2 cert out there last month, instead of waiting until 2017.

  • I chose to move apartments, and launch my online business this year instead.

  • I had thought I had all the time in the world to go back.

Then it really hit me…

“I’m really glad I went last year, instead of waiting until I was ready.” I told Coach.

He nodded and smiled.

Lifting on the same platforms my coach used, as a resident Olympic Athlete.
He reminded me that while I was out there,
I trained next to the same lifting platform he used as an athlete over a decade earlier.

I nodded and smiled, and talked to him about how cool that was.

Last year in June, I posted this blog post
, after I had went to Colorado, and passed my 3 advanced certifications for sports performance and nutrition.

In it I laid out my future plans for the next year…

I had a ebook to write.

I had a wellness program to launch.

I had online programs to launch.

Now a year later, I was able to share awesome news earlier this month.

But what if I had waited?

What if I had listened to that voice that said it was too much for me?

They say it’s never too late.

But is that really true?

I was reminded this week to never take an opportunity for granted.

If I had waited until I was an experienced Olympic lifter, I would never had the opportunity to train at the Olympic Training Center.

It is an opportunity that is no longer possible for TEAM USA Weightlifting's athletes, or USAW Sports Performance Coaches.

I got to train on the same platforms as TEAM USA, at our nations Olympic Training Center...all for just a coaching certification fee.

I almost missed the chance to write this experience into my life story.

What a shame it would have been.

What a loss it would have been.

Don’t wait until you feel ready...to do the thing you are called to do.

What if the only chance you get to do the thing is right now?

Do the thing.

Do the thing NOW.

I am scared all the time.  But, I do the thing anyway.

GO...NOW...before it is too late.
